That is that

And the Vikings are now 3-0; Texans are um what’s that?? Oh yeah 1 -2. Darn, so close.

Favre didn’t look too bad his first full half as a Minnesota Viking though he sure wasn’t a 12 million dollar QB. With the “potential” broken ribs he still managed to stick it out with 13 of 18 for 142 yards. There were a couple passes where I had to ask myself what is he thinking? Yet we did manage to hold off any turnovers. Matt Schaub looked pretty good as well. Even with his sprained ankle he managed to stay in and drive to a Texan touchdown. Schaub completed 10 of 14 for 108 yards. The secondary QB’s also had their share of successes. Tarvaris pulled it off again on his short run.

The game for the Vikings was racked with stupid penalties. I have to say I was not impressed with the number of calls we received for good reason. Thirteen penalties for 85 yards is just plain sick. The Texans on the other hand had a mere 5 for 35 yards and I do have to admit the roughing the passer call on the Texans was bull. He was clearly executing the tackle before the ball left Favre’s hands.

Of course the star moment was good Ol’ AP running the opening play for 75 yards to start the game with a touchdown. There was also the two beautiful interceptions. Defensively the team seemed improved to me. They managed two turnovers and Jared Allen scored a nice sack.

The Vikings offense seems to be starting to gain a rhythm together. I cannot say they are in sync but getting there, provided the quarterback can last a couple more games. All together the passing, receiving and rushing game were pretty sound. If we can get a handle on our false starts we will move ahead leaps and bounds.

I definitely think the Vikings should have easily dominated this game tonight and the stats clearly show it was a close game. But this is still the learning stage, throw in a wrench like Favre and any team can be thrown off base. Again, he had a decent show this evening but it will take a lot more to convince me he is the "golden boy" he is built up to be.

So, Rick…… one more week until the real games begin. I sure hope your preseason isn’t a precursor to what the season will hold.

  1. Nice sack yeah yeah... Jared Allen was awarded the sack for being the closest defender to the Intentional Grounding penalty.
